Palios Panteleimonas, Greece: A rare and ancient beauty.
After the historic mountain village was destroyed by an earthquake in the 19th century, this original place Panteleimonas (not Neo Panteleimonas), some time ago was re-populated and again largely built in the source. Some buildings are still not restored, and convey the place with a special flair.
To get to this village, you have to drive six kilometers up the slope in serpentines, but it's worth!
Due to its hillside location, the place must be explored by foot: Here you can not drive in by car. There is parking lot at the entrance, where you can park your car for free and walk on foot into a time and world of the past.
Discover the beautiful old houses, which fit perfectly into the slopes of Mount Olympus, or hike quite relaxed in this small village.
Take in the smells of the mountains; it smells of different herbs like the wild oregano or the Greek mountain tea. Of course, you can purchase these various herbs in the small shops.To follow the signs, you need to be able to do a bit of Greek, but since the village is not that big, you can hardly lose track. Stroll through the small streets and browse the small shops of the traditionally restored city center.
In the central square of the place - the "Platia" - you can visit the very beautiful church and also sit in the shadow of great and old Paltanen to observe the original form of daily life of the Greeks.In small tavernas you will experience the proverbial hospitality of the Greeks and also enjoy some typical dishes or sweets with your coffee. Try the fresh water from the village's own spring.
Some hiking trails lead drirectly from the village into the legendary mountains of Mount Olympus.
