Kefalonia, Greek island
The inhabitants of the Greek island of Kefalonia mainly live as fishermen, or from olive growing and sheep farming. From October visitors from Athens make up the majority of the guests, but as more and more foreign tourists prefer this destination in the summer, the locals have adapted to the increasing (cruise) tourism.
There is also a lot to discover on the island: Marvel at the Drogarti stalactite cave, Mount Enos, or visit the castle of Assos and the Roman villa in Skala. Also worth seeing are the Aghii Theodori lighthouse and the Agiou Gerasimou monastery.
One of the most famous sights is the underground Melissani Lake, which allows you to visit another interesting stalactite cave. Because of its excellent acoustics, this is also used for many different concerts. A great experience!
In the north of the island the fishing village of Fiskardo also impresses with its historic architecture.
Numerous ferry connections allow you to visit the eastern Greek mainland, or a trip to the neighboring islands of Ithaca, Killini, Lefkada, Patras and Zakynthos.

The island of Kefalonia is approx. 280 kilometers from Athens and is best reached from there by plane. In the simmer months the "Anna Pollatou Kefalonia" airport is served directly by various airlines from Europe. To explore the surrounding area, many large car rental companies are available directly at the airport.
